Virtual Staging AI alternatives in 2026: 9 options compared by what you need

Virtual Staging AI (virtualstagingai.app, owned by Zillow since October 2024) stages an uploaded photo in about 10 seconds for $16–$79 a month, so the alternative you want depends on what it lacks for you: Collov AI, AI HomeDesign and REimagineHome bundle staging with photo editing, renovation or tours on similar subscriptions; StageHQ and Apply Design sell credits with no subscription; BoxBrownie and Styldod put a designer on each image for $16–$24; Shhots adds a short narrated video; and if the photos have not been taken yet, October guides an iPhone capture and returns AI-generated photos drawn from it, a walkthrough and staged rooms, usually within a few hours. This page compares nine options from their public pages as of October 2026; it is written by October's founder and ranks October where it fits.

How we compared them

We read Virtual Staging AI's pricing page and homepage and, for each alternative, its own pricing page or homepage, on October 21, 2026 (REimagineHome re-read, and PadStyler and Stuccco added, on October 22). For the Zillow acquisition we relied on two press reports from October 2024, because Zillow's own announcement returned 403 to us. We did not run the same room through every service, so this is a comparison of what each one offers and charges, not of staging quality. Where a site publishes a headline price that its pricing page does not match (AI HomeDesign's 'from $0.24 per photo', Collov's '25% off' yearly), we say so.

A note on prices: Virtual Staging AI, Collov AI, AI HomeDesign, StageHQ, Shhots and Styldod show dollars with no currency named. Virtual Staging AI's and Collov's headline monthly prices are yearly-billing prices ('Billed as $228 yearly'); month-to-month costs more, and Virtual Staging AI's page does not show the monthly rate. BoxBrownie's pricing page shows prices by region; its US price for virtual staging, read on October 27, 2026 with the region set to United States, is $24 an image, 20% below the $30 list price captured in August 2026 by Shhots. Its US enhancement price the same day was $1.60.

Who should not switch away from Virtual Staging AI

Virtual Staging AI does the one thing it does quickly and cheaply, and a page of alternatives should say so. Its pricing page lists four plans, all billed yearly: Basic $16 a month for 6 photos, Standard $19 for 20, Professional $39 for 60 and Enterprise $79 for 150, which the page itself works out at $2.67, $0.95, $0.65 and $0.53 a photo. Every plan has unlimited renders and downloads, all room types and styles, furniture removal, no watermark and a '10 seconds turnaround'; Enterprise adds API access. The homepage says you can upload a photo and try it with no sign-up and no card, claims '10,000+ users', '50+ design styles' and that it was 'Developed at Harvard Innovation Lab'. Zillow Group bought the company on October 7, 2024, for an undisclosed amount, and said it was integrating the tool into Zillow Showcase; the standalone site is still selling plans as we write.

  • You stage a lot and want the lowest price per photo on a subscription. At $0.53 a photo on Enterprise, only Collov's $0.24 add-on rate, AI HomeDesign's $0.24 Enterprise rate and StageHQ's $0.28 pack are lower, and all three need a bigger commitment or a one-off purchase.
  • You want one tool that does one thing. No credits, no tool menu, no renovation features to wander into: upload, pick a style, download. For an agent who stages two listings a month that simplicity is worth something.
  • You list on Zillow and want to see where this goes. Zillow owns the company and said it is folding the tool into Showcase. If you use Showcase, staying put may get you the same engine inside the listing flow.
  • You want to try before you sign up. The homepage lets you stage a photo with no account. Most rivals ask for an account first; StageHQ and REimagineHome give a few free tries, Collov five watermarked ones.

If one of those is you, the rest of this page is for the day you need something Virtual Staging AI does not do: photo correction or item removal on the same plan, a human designer, credits that do not expire, a video, or photos when they have not been taken yet.

Collov AI's pricing page advertises '25% OFF' for yearly billing, but the yearly totals it shows ($228, $588, $948, $1,524) are exactly twelve times the monthly figures, so the discount is not visible in the numbers; treat the monthly prices as yearly-billing prices. AI HomeDesign's homepage says 'From $0.24 per photo', which is its Enterprise rate on yearly billing, not the entry price.

Two more names come up when you ask Google's AI Mode for BoxBrownie alternatives, and both fit here. PadStyler AI is priced almost exactly like Virtual Staging AI: 6 photos a month for $16, 20 for $19 and 60 for $39 on yearly billing ($25, $35 and $79 month to month), with furniture removal and multi-view staging, and its AI page says every render is reviewed for consistency and realism before delivery; the same company sells designer staging at $23 to $34 an image in under 24 hours. Stuccco is human-only: $35 an image pay as you go, or $24.50 to $28 with a prepaid bundle, delivered within 24 hours, seven days a week, with unlimited revisions and an optional 'Virtually Staged' watermark (from the Internet Archive's July 10, 2026 copy of its pricing page, because its live site showed us a bot check on October 22, 2026). Both are compared in our virtual staging apps roundup.

Your situationLook atWhy
I want staging and photo editing on one planAI HomeDesign, Collov AI, ShhotsAI HomeDesign bundles staging with item removal, day to dusk and enhancement from $19 a month billed yearly. Collov adds photo editing and renovation edits from its $49 Advanced plan. Shhots pairs correction, staging and removal at about $0.45 a generation. Virtual Staging AI stages and removes furniture, nothing else.
I stage a few images a year and don't want a subscriptionStageHQ, Apply DesignStageHQ's $19 pack covers 20 photos and never expires. Apply Design charges $7–$15 an image with the first free. Virtual Staging AI's cheapest plan is $16 a month billed yearly, $192 a year, for 6 photos a month.
I want a designer to choose and place the furnitureBoxBrownie, StyldodBoth put a person on each image: Styldod at $16–$23 with unlimited revisions and a money-back guarantee, BoxBrownie at $24 with free changes for two months, in 24–48 hours. No AI tool here promises a person will look at the result.
I want staging to show buyers real furnitureREimagineHomeIt can match real products you can buy, for a second credit. Collov's Premium tier offers a human-assisted multi-angle staging that keeps furniture consistent across several photos of the same room, at 20 credits an image.
I need a video as wellOctober, Shhots, Collov AI, StyldodOctober's walkthrough is AI-generated motion (Kling) between the room's finished photos. Shhots makes a 15-second narrated clip from 3–4 photos. Collov's Premium plan makes an AI virtual tour from up to 20 images. Styldod edits video you shoot. Virtual Staging AI makes none.
The photos haven't been taken yetOctoberEvery other option starts from a photo you upload. October guides the capture on an iPhone 12 or newer, has an AI image model draw the finished photos from it, usually delivers them and the walkthrough within a few hours, and stages or empties any captured room at $29 or $19, every photo of that room. See virtual staging vs empty room.

What a 6-room listing costs: per photo vs per room

Take a six-room home and 18 photos, three per room, which is what October captures, and suppose two of the rooms are empty and should be staged: six images. Here is that job priced along Virtual Staging AI's path and October's, using the list prices above. Virtual Staging AI only stages, so the photos still have to be taken and, if you want them corrected, edited somewhere else; we use BoxBrownie's $1.60 enhancement for that line and PhotoUp's 2026 national average of $230 for a standard photographer's shoot.

Read it both ways. If you already have good photos of an empty home, Virtual Staging AI's $19 beats October's $58 for the staging alone, and beats it by more if you stage every room. If the photos still have to be taken, October's $49 covers the capture and the finished photos, and its staging is priced per room rather than per image, so three or more images of the same room cost the same $29. Your first place with October is free, including the walkthrough (pricing). More in our virtual staging cost guide.

Three things to check before you switch

  • Whether the room stays the room. Staging adds furniture; it must not move walls, change floors or redraw the view. Virtual Staging AI says its AI 'Leaves room layout untouched'; Shhots lists what it never changes (walls, windows, doors, floors, ceilings, built-ins, sightlines); October draws every photo with an AI image model from your capture, tells it to keep walls, floors, windows, fittings and the view, and redraws a photo if the check against the capture finds the room changed; staged and emptied images carry a label on the image. AI can still get a detail wrong, so whatever you use, compare each result with the original before it goes on a listing.
  • What the price is really per. Per photo on a yearly-billed monthly allowance (Virtual Staging AI, Collov AI, AI HomeDesign), per credit that never expires (StageHQ), per image (Apply Design, BoxBrownie, Styldod), per credit on a monthly pool (Shhots, REimagineHome) or per room (October). Count images per listing and listings per month before comparing; six plans here reset unused credits every month.
  • Disclosure. A staged photo is a digitally altered image under California's AB 723 and most MLS rules, whoever makes it: label it and keep the unaltered original. October's unstaged photos are AI-generated too, so label them as AI-altered or digitally altered where your MLS, portal or state requires; October's download includes the unaltered original of every photo, so you can link or provide it where your MLS or state requires. See AI photo editing and MLS rules and the best virtual staging apps.

Questions

What is the best alternative to Virtual Staging AI?

It depends on what Virtual Staging AI lacks for you. For staging plus photo editing on one plan, AI HomeDesign (from $19 a month billed yearly) or Collov AI. For no subscription, StageHQ ($19 for 20 photos, credits never expire) or Apply Design ($7–$15 an image). For a human designer, Styldod ($16–$23) or BoxBrownie ($24). For a short video too, Shhots (see Shhots alternatives for how it compares). If the photos have not been taken yet, October guides one iPhone walk and returns AI-generated photos drawn from it, a walkthrough and staged rooms, usually within a few hours.

Is Virtual Staging AI owned by Zillow?

Yes. Zillow Group announced on October 7, 2024 that it had acquired Virtual Staging AI (VSAI), a company co-founded in 2023, for an undisclosed amount, and said it was integrating the tool into its Zillow Showcase product. As of October 21, 2026 the standalone site at virtualstagingai.app still sells its own plans and does not mention Zillow.

How much does Virtual Staging AI cost per photo?

Its pricing page, as of October 2026, lists four plans billed yearly: $16 a month for 6 photos ($2.67 a photo), $19 for 20 ($0.95), $39 for 60 ($0.65) and $79 for 150 ($0.53). Every plan has unlimited renders, furniture removal and no watermark; API access is on the $79 plan. Month-to-month billing costs more and is not priced on the page.

Is there a free alternative to Virtual Staging AI?

Not an unlimited one that we found. Virtual Staging AI itself lets you stage a photo on its homepage with no sign-up. StageHQ gives 3 watermarked previews, REimagineHome 5 free designs with no card, Collov 5 watermarked trials, AI HomeDesign a few free photos, and Apply Design and Styldod make the first image free. October's first place, up to 6 rooms with photos and a walkthrough, is free; staged rooms are $29 each.

Which Virtual Staging AI alternatives make a video?

Of the nine here: October (an AI-generated walkthrough, made by Kling between the room's finished photos, HD or 4K), Shhots (a 15-second narrated clip with a presenter, from 3–4 photos), Collov AI (an AI virtual tour from up to 20 images on its Premium plan) and Styldod (video editing from $60, single property video from $30). Virtual Staging AI, AI HomeDesign, REimagineHome, StageHQ, Apply Design and BoxBrownie list none.

Can October stage photos I already have?

No. October stages rooms captured with its own app on an iPhone 12 or newer: an Empty room is $19 and a Staged room (Scandinavian, Modern or Classic) $29, covering every photo of that room, with a visible label on each image. For photos you already have, use one of the other eight options on this page.

Did you test all nine?

No. This page compares what each service publishes on its own pricing page or homepage, checked on October 21, 2026, plus two press reports for the Zillow acquisition. We only describe October from first-hand knowledge, because we make it.
