Airbnb Photography Cost: Pro Photographers, Airbnb's Program and DIY

A professional photographer for an Airbnb typically costs about $240 to $650 for a studio to three-bedroom rental in the US, judging by the packages photographers list on Airbnb's own Services marketplace in October 2026. Airbnb's Pro Photo program is still running: nothing is paid up front, the cost is deducted from your future payouts, and the price depends on your listing's size and location.

Airbnb's Pro Photo program in 2026: how it works and what it costs

Airbnb has offered professional photography to hosts for years, and as of October 2026 its Pro Photo program page is live. This is how Airbnb describes it:

  • No upfront payment. The cost of the shoot is subtracted from future payouts, and it is only charged after the new photos are live.
  • 15 to 25 retouched photos, depending on the size of the property. Your existing photos are not removed.
  • About 48 hours to be connected with a local photographer after you accept the offer, and new photos usually go live within a week of the shoot.
  • A $50 late-cancellation fee if you cancel within 24 hours of the shoot. The space has to be ready by 8:00 AM on the day.
  • Not everywhere. It depends on whether freelance photographers work in your market and are available. Hospitable's host guide adds that the shoot is offered once per listing and is non-refundable once it begins.

The price is not printed on the program page itself. Airbnb links to a separate service-cost page and asks you to check your eligibility, and host guides such as Hospitable's say the cost varies with the property's size and location. In practice you see your price in your host account before you commit.

Airbnb backs the program with its own numbers: listings that used it saw 19% more bookings and 21% higher host earnings on average, comparing more than 14,700 listings with the program against more than 62,300 without, over 2024 to 2025. It also says 85% of hosts paid for the shoot within one reservation, based on 39,270 hosts. These are Airbnb's comparisons, not a controlled experiment, and Airbnb itself says results are not guaranteed: hosts who buy pro photos may differ from hosts who don't.

What independent Airbnb photographers charge

Airbnb's Services marketplace now lists photographers who sell vacation-rental shoots directly, with prices on the page. They are a useful, public benchmark. These are three US examples as listed in October 2026 (prices in USD as displayed by Airbnb):

Outside Airbnb, general booking platforms price by the hour. Snappr charges $279 for a two-hour property shoot anywhere in the US (plus a 15% service fee) and puts independent photographers at about $150 an hour. Because vacation-rental photos are close to real estate photos, our real estate photography cost guide is a good cross-check: a standard listing shoot has a median of about $200 there.

Do better photos actually get more Airbnb bookings?

The best independent evidence comes from academic work on Airbnb itself. A study presented at ICIS 2016 by four Carnegie Mellon researchers compared listings before and after Airbnb's verified (professional) photos and found that rooms with verified photos were booked about 9% more often. That is smaller than Airbnb's own 19% figure, and it is the more conservative number to plan with.

Photos also do more work on Airbnb than on most sites because of how the listing is laid out. According to Airbnb's help center:

  • The first five photos get the prominent spot on your listing, and the first one is the image guests see in search.
  • Photos must be at least 1024 × 683 pixels, and Airbnb prefers larger images. If one won't go up, see why Airbnb photos fail to upload.
  • Each room needs at least one photo to appear in the photo tour, and an AI sorts your photos into rooms automatically.

So the practical goal is narrow: a bright, sharp, level cover photo, four strong follow-ups, and at least one good photo of every room, bathrooms included.

A simple payback check: divide the cost by your nightly rate. At $200 a night, a $437 shoot is a little over two nights of revenue before fees and cleaning; a $99 October place is about half a night. The bigger and pricier the rental, the easier a full photographer shoot is to justify.

The DIY route: phone photos that hold up

A recent iPhone can produce bookable photos if you control the basics. The full method is in our guide to Airbnb photos with an iPhone; the short version:

  1. Shoot right after a clean, in daylight, with every light on and the curtains open.
  2. Clear what guests won't find on arrival: toiletries, chargers, papers, personal photos. Make the beds tight and plump the cushions. Our prep checklist works room by room.
  3. Hold the phone level at about chest height and keep vertical lines straight. Leaning walls are the clearest sign of an amateur photo.
  4. Use the 1× lens for most shots and step into a corner to show the room, rather than using the ultra-wide from the middle.
  5. Pick the cover photo last: the brightest, widest shot of the space guests are paying for, often the living room or the view.

Where October fits for hosts

October is a middle route between DIY and a photographer. You walk the rental with the October app between two stays: it takes you to three spots in each room, keeps the phone level and takes the photos itself. From that capture an AI image model draws a finished wide photo of every spot, and you get the AI-generated photos and an AI walkthrough video, usually within a few hours.

A rental of up to 6 rooms is one place: $49 for photos, $99 with a walkthrough video, $199 with 4K. Your first place is free. The photos get a daylight look and loose items like bottles, towels and cables are left out; the model is told to keep the rooms, the furniture and the view as captured, and each photo is checked against your capture. AI can still get a small detail wrong, so compare every photo with the room before you upload it, so guests find what they booked. October needs an iPhone 12 or newer and doesn't fly drones or shoot twilight; for those, a photographer is the better buy. More on the short-term rentals page and pricing.
