The services side by side

Everything below is what each company publishes on its own pricing or product pages. We checked PhotoUp and Styldod on October 31, 2026. BoxBrownie, Autoenhance.ai and Imagen show their prices only after the page loads in a browser, or turned our check away on October 31, so for those three we give the figures we read in a browser earlier in the month, with the date. Prices are in US dollars. Confirm on the vendor's page before you order.

What photo enhancement includes

"Enhancement" usually means the basic edit every listing photo gets. Most services include these in the base price:

  • HDR or flambient blending: several exposures merged so the room and the view through the window both show.
  • Colour and white balance: walls that look white, not yellow or blue.
  • Verticals and perspective: walls and door frames straight up and down.
  • Window pulls: the view outside brought back instead of a white glow.
  • Sky replacement: a grey sky swapped for a blue one on exterior shots (included at some services, extra at others).
  • Small clean-ups: lens spots, a stray cord, a reflection.

These usually cost extra, per photo:

  • Item removal or decluttering: taking out furniture, bins, cars or clutter.
  • Day to dusk or twilight: a daytime exterior turned into an evening shot.
  • Virtual staging: furniture added to an empty room.
  • Floor plans: drawn from your sketch or measurements.

If you'd rather do the basic edit yourself, our guide to how to edit real estate photos walks through it in Lightroom, Photoshop and on an iPhone.

When enhancement is worth paying for

  • You shoot brackets and don't want to blend them yourself. This is what the services are built for, and the automated ones do it in minutes.
  • The photos are good but the light isn't. Dark rooms, blown windows and grey skies are what enhancement fixes best.
  • You need an extra or two on a few photos, such as one twilight exterior or a staged living room.
  • You list often. A plan or credit pack brings the per-photo price down.

It's less useful when the photos themselves are the problem: wrong angles, a phone held tilted, a room shot from the doorway with half of it missing, or clutter everywhere. An editor can only work with what's in the frame. Then it's usually cheaper to reshoot, with a photographer or yourself.

That's the gap October is built for. Instead of editing photos you already have, the October app walks you through the place on an iPhone, shows you where to stand and keeps the phone level, and the finished photos and a walkthrough video come back to your account, usually within a few hours. It can't edit photos you already took.

How to choose a service

  1. Look at what you'll send. Brackets from a real camera suit any of them. Single phone shots get less out of HDR blending.
  2. Decide human or automated. Human editors (BoxBrownie, PhotoUp, Styldod) cost more and take about a day. Automated editors (Autoenhance.ai, Imagen) cost less and come back in minutes, with less judgement on hard rooms.
  3. Price the whole listing, not one photo. 25 photos at $1.60 is $40 before extras; add a twilight shot and two staged rooms and it's more than double.
  4. Check what counts as one photo. PhotoUp charges more credits for HDR and flambient sets; Autoenhance.ai charges one credit per download however many brackets went in.
  5. Try the free photos first. BoxBrownie, PhotoUp, Styldod, Autoenhance.ai and Imagen all offer free images or a trial. Send your hardest room.
  6. Ask how revisions work. Styldod offers unlimited revisions on Expert Services; Imagen for Real Estate includes 5 human revisions per listing.

What MLS rules allow

Basic enhancement is fine almost everywhere: exposure, colour, white balance, straightening, sharpening and cropping need no label under California's AB 723 or the big MLS rules we've read. Edits that add, remove or change something in the picture are different. Virtual staging, item removal and often sky replacement need a label, and in California and at a growing number of MLSs, a link to the unaltered photo too. Changing the property itself, its walls, floors, fixtures or view, isn't allowed.

Before you order extras, read what MLS rules say about AI and software edits and check your own MLS in MLS photo rules by MLS. Keep the originals: whichever service you use, you may be asked for them.

Questions

How much do real estate photo enhancement services cost?

From about $0.32 a photo (Imagen for Real Estate) and $0.75 (Autoenhance.ai) for automated editing to $1.50–$1.60 for human editing at PhotoUp, Styldod and BoxBrownie. Extras such as item removal, twilight and virtual staging cost $4 to $24 a photo.

What is the difference between photo enhancement and photo editing?

Most services use the words for the same thing: the standard edit of a listing photo, covering blending, colour, verticals, windows and sometimes the sky. Item removal, twilight and staging are usually sold as separate edits on top.

How long does real estate photo enhancement take?

Automated services say minutes: Autoenhance.ai says 5 to 10 minutes for a full shoot, Imagen under 10 minutes for the first batch. Human services say about a day: BoxBrownie and PhotoUp 24 hours, Styldod 24 to 48 hours.

Do enhanced photos need a label on the MLS?

Not for light, colour, straightening or cropping. Edits that add, remove or change things in the picture, such as staging or item removal, usually need a label and sometimes the original photo. See AI real estate photo editing and MLS rules.

Can an enhancement service fix bad photos?

It can fix light, colour, windows and verticals. It can't fix the angle, a room that wasn't fully in the frame, or a blurry shot. For those, reshooting is usually cheaper.
